Mercy

She toiled for hours in those fields,

And in his bed,

She did it so her siblings would be feed,

But wished he would take a liking to his wife instead.

For asking the simplest questions,

Her back bleed,

And commandments to be humble and obedient ,

From the Bible the preachers read.

She knew in this place,

She didn't belong.

She knew no matter what they told her,

This was wrong.

Her brothers had a plot,

Sort for a better life and were all shot.

After twenty lashes a piece,

They were forgot.

There was no way this was to be real,

Captive - Everyday working for free,

Made to bore babies - Who would get this very same deal,

Sons and daughters slaves - Daughters leg spread - Worthy

But never good enough for Mercy.
